The Story of Network31

Hello my name is Guy Caballero and I was the CEO of Network31... Well not Really. But you get the Gist..

Very well. Where do I begin? I was a relentlessly self-improving Engineer with low-grade disdain and a penchant for collecting electronics equipment. the sort of general malaise that only the genius possess, and the insane lament. My childhood was typical: Summers down the Shore, Bike riding. In the Spring I would get allergies. When I was insolent, I was placed in a burlap bag and beaten; pretty standard, really.

At the age of 12, I received my first Stereo System. It was a Great time to be Alive!

At the age of 14, I began collecting Electronics Equipment and Computers. It's breathtaking; I suggest you try it.

At the Age of 17, I was working in the commercial video game industry and writing code and programs and building computers on the side. I wrote all the business programs that ran both My company and My Dad's I also sold business computer solutions. I had a hot girl friend at the time that would do the software testing but I realized that this was only going to be a side gig as more and more out of the box solutions were available at a lower cost. 

At the age of 35, I realized that I had collected a lot (when I say a lot I really mean an ridiculous amount) of computers and began wondering.. Hey how can make any money with all this junk.. It was just happenstance that my long time friend Dr. Evil and his associate frau Farbissina (Not their real names but it goes with the theme) were beginning a new software development company.. TIMA So I set up their development system and network and became a principal in the new company.. Well that takes care of some of the junk in the attic but what about all this other junk in the basement? 

At the age of 36, I was out with Snappy Pants. (Not his real name He's more of a Cmdr Kaos) who was involved in one of the first Online gaming sites called The Bunker and they were wondering how they could get their site on the web and advertise.. And the next day I looked at all the junk and began to assemble and build what would become Network31..  (The name Network31 came about from SCTV Network 90 and Max Headroom Network23)

Network31 went Live in Jan of 1999 with 3 websites. Over the years we made a few Quid had a few laughs acquired more junk.. ah I mean computers and met some interesting clients but times were changing and so were the business models. Then the Russians got in it to win it (Zoinks you didn't see that coming did you? We didn't either) 9Net Avenue launched FREE Webhosting..  As did others.  It became difficult to charge a monthly fee when Free was becoming common place (Free as long as we place targeted banner ad's in your site).. Along with Template Web Sites that one size fit most.. At the Peak of Network31 we hosted between 25 and 50 sites. Some I remember. Most I forgot.. Some were online for a year or more Some a few months. 

At the Age of 50, I knew it was time to pull the plug on Network31.. So on a crisp October day in 2014 I logged on for the last time and commanded the shutdown of the last two production servers on line. and pulled the plug on everything.. I turned the lights out on Network31 and reflected on what had transpired.. And then it hit me.. What am I going to do with all this Junk Now.. It was an interesting time.. It started as a Hobby.. Became a Business for a brief moment in time and is now a Hobby again. Good thing I kept my Real Job.. 

At the Age of 60, I Retired from my Real Job..  as I began to get used to the idea of being retired I started to look at things around the house that went unnoticed for years.. Concrete that needed repair things that needed painting the little things you never had time for or noticed because you were always busy at work.. And Yes you guessed it The Cable Bill.. slowly over time it had risen to over $300 a month..  I was Shocked.. Shocked and Appalled that I was paying that much to watch TV..  And as i tripped over a Server and Network Switch on the floor in the pile of junk that was Network31 in the Basement (Yes this time I kept everything incase I might need it again) I knew there was only one thing to do..   Rebuild Network31 with all the stuff I just tripped over and get rid of cable and start Streaming TV.. So Yes I finally joined the New Millennium and cut the Cable Cord..  My Bill went down to $100 a month for internet access and the streaming packages.  Now I can watch Hogan's Hero's, Green Acers and Miami Vice anytime. The same programs that used to cost me $300 a month, And as a bonus Network31 Lives Again Online.. after a 12 Year Hiatus this time just a Hobby project brought about by tripping over a pile of Junk that I thought i might need some day again.
